The Energy Department has made interim Chief Information Officer Robert Brese the permanent CIO, according to Federal News Radio.

The 22-year Navy veteran has served in the interim role since Mike Locatis left DOE in April to become assistant secretary for cyber security and communications at the Department of Homeland Security.

Brese joined DOE in December 2010 as deputy CIO and previously served as deputy CIO for information technology at the National Nuclear Safety Administration for three years.

He has also served as NNSA’s director of security program evaluations for defense nuclear security.

Jason Miller also reported that Mike Kane, DOE’s chief human capital officer, is retiring after a 30-year career in the federal government.

Deputy CHCO Sarah Bonilla will succeed Kane on an interim basis.
