A top Department of Homeland Security official for cybersecurity and communications has vacated his post, government sources told Federal News Radio.

Federal News Radio reported Assistant Secretary Greg Schaffer is expected to return to the private sector.

Schaffer joined DHS in June 2009 and worked with both private and public sector firms to protect U.S. cyber infrastructure.

Schaffer is the fifth DHS senior cyber executive to leave the department since last summer, according to Federal News Radio.

DHS appointed John Streufert director of the national cybersecurity division in January to replace Nicole Dean, who accepted a position with Raytheon.
