Hank Beebe, chief information officer for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, said Friday that cloud computing adoption requires a new information technology acquisition model.

According to Fierce Government, Beebe made his announcement at the AFCEA DC event in Arlington, Va. on March 23.

He said existing federal acquisition processes are restrictive due to a lack of a working capital.

Agencies would have to pass multiple bureaucratic procedures to move to the cloud, he said.

Most agencies decided to consolidate their data centers even before the Office of Management and Budget directed the closure of 800 centers by 2015.

Beebe said the problem now derives from creating a solution on how to fund agencies’ transition to the cloud through new acquisition policies, according to Fierce Government.
