The week of Sept. 18-24 will be marked to honor the National Guard and Reserve, President Barack Obama said Friday.

Obama issued a proclamation calling on state and local officials, private organizations and military commanders to hold ceremonies and events in observation of National Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Week.

“These patriots serve not only in combat, but also when disaster strikes at home, offering a strong hand to victims of floods, tornadoes, and fires across America,” Obama said.

This year, Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden announced Joining Forces, helping to connect service members, veterans, and their families to employment opportunities.
