DoD Announces Results of Renewable Energy Projects Review

1 min read

The Defense Department announced today a review of 249 renewable energy projects proposed in 39 states and Puerto Rico have found that 229 have little or no impact on military missions. This clears the way for further production of more than 10 giga watts of renewable energy generation capacity.

The review involved 6,500 wind turbines and 30 solar projects. This is all done in an effort to increase the nation’s energy security and ensure military services have the test capabilities, training venues and equipment to keep the U.S. safe.

The department plans to negotiate with developers and undertake further studies on the 20 projects that may pose adverse impacts on military readiness and operations. DoD is looking for the projects that have little or no impact on military missions to move forward.
