The Defense Department has announced Shay Assad, who used to head up the department’s  Defense Procurement and Acquisition Policy shop, has been named the director of defense pricing.

The announcement came in the Defense Department’s listing of new members of the Senior Executive Service — the upper echelon of the federal government’s civilian workforce.

Assad’s new role, like his previous one, is within the office of the undersecretary of defense for acquisition, technology and logistics. He first joined the office in 2006 after serving as the Marine Corps’ senior civilian contracting official since 2004.

A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Assad also has experience on the other side of the government-contracting dealbook. He began working for industry giant Raytheon in 1978 and rose to be the company’s senior vice president for contracts as well as chairman and CEO of its engineering and construction division. He retired from the firm in 2000.
