wall-street-signPresident Obama gave a speech to financial leaders on Wall Street this morning at Cooper Union in New York. A crowd of around 700 people were present, however, the speech was also broadcast live on whitehouse.gov.

The goal of today’s speech was to bring to mind the need for financial reform. Obama called these “common sense reforms” and he was urging leaders of the financial industry to join in the efforts “because it is in the interest of your country.”

President Obama said, “Ultimately there is no dividing line between Main Street and Wall Street. We will rise or we will fall together as one nation. And that is why I urge all of you to join me.”

Obama traveled to Wall Street to give this speech just as the Senate is approaching a deal to overhaul financial rules. A test vote on the reform bill could happen as early as Monday, according to marketwatch.com.
