Unifying the Department of Homeland Security

57289306Secretary Napolitano, the third secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, spoke at the DHS employee Town Hall meeting on December 15th, 2009.  Employees gathered to hear her speak at the actual Town Hall at USCIS Tomich Center in DC, but a number of employees joined in through videoconferencing internationally.

When she first came into office, Secretary Napolitano pointed out the following 5 priorities for DHS: 1) defense/guard against terrorism 2) security of our borders 3) enforcement of immigration laws 4) preparation/response/and recovery from natural disasters and 5) unification and maturity of the department. In her speech on December 15th she focused on the unification of DHS.

Secretary Napolitano has a vision of an integrated and mature department that works together. She spoke about her ideas of shared responsibility and how she believes the biggest asset of the DHS is its 230,000 employees. After her speech, Napolitano opened up the floor for questions.
